SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT: Tyrell Sledge

“He’s an anchor, for both the organization and the line of scrimmage,” Pioneer Head Coach Damien Rochon-Washington says of this week’s Sunday Spotlight, Tyrell Sledge. The towering defensive lineman has played semi-professional football for six years and has earned quite the reputation for himself and is looked at as a leader for the defensive line.

Sledge loves playing for the Pioneers. “It’s a brotherhood that means the world to me,” Sledge says. With his infectious smile and can do attitude, you can often see Sledge lifting his fellow teammates and even coaches up. “I have made so many lifetime friendships since I joined the P Unit,” Sledge says. Brandon Murdock, a long time teammate of Sledge, calls Sledge “one of the best teammates I have ever had.”

When asked what advice he had for future Pioneers, Sledge offers sound advice. “If you want to see the field, work hard and show out any and every time you touch the field,” he says. “Whether it be practice specialties or scout team, show up and show out. I promise you will get your chance to shine.”

You have one last chance to to see Sledge and the rest of the Pioneers get their chance to shine on Saturday, July 22 at 6 PM as the Pioneers take on the Racine Raiders at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul.

The Sunday Spotlight is a weekly publication meant to highlight a member of our organization. During the season, it will focus on active players.
