SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT: Dominic Goseyun

This week the Pioneers spotlight a young man who once lined up against the Pioneers and then came to the team for the 2023 season. Each week Dominic Goseyun drives from his home in Fargo, ND, to practice at Conway Recreational Center in St. Paul, Minnesota just for practice. Goseyun is the Northern Elite Football League’s Defensive Player of the Year and it is incredibly well-deserved.

Pioneer Defensive Coordinator Jesse Luft relys on Goseyun for stout run stopping. “He’s just consistent and is always looking to get better,” Luft says of Goseyun. “He doesn’t complain or question his role. He does what ever he is asked to do to win.”

Pioneer Head Coach Damien Rochon-Washington had high praise for Goseyun. “He’s someone I’ve tried to recruit for multiple years,” he says. “You won’t hear [Dom] say much, but his dedication and talent show weekly. If you have the ball and Dom is in the area, you’re getting thumped because he’s bringing it.” Coach Rochon-Washington concluded his thoughts on Goseyun by saying “He exemplifies the ‘Pioneer Way. I expect big things from him over the next few seasons.’”

Goseyun has thus far enjoyed his time as a Pioneer. He says “being a Pioneer means being accountable for your actions and helping your teammates whenever they ask for help.” Goseyun started his career with the Fargo Invaders. “The level of competition [the Pioneers] always brought was always impressive, even now. Competition breeds competition. If you want to be the best, you have to be around the best and I want to be the best that I can be.”

Goseyun has sound advice for his younger self and any who wish to succeed on the football field. “Roll with the punches as much as you can,” he advised. “As my grandma would always say, ‘you have to stay vigilant’. Now that I’m older, I understand what she meant.”

The St. Paul Pioneers are very proud of Goseyun and have high hopes and expectations of him.

The Sunday Spotlight is a weekly publication meant to highlight a member of our organization. During the season, it will focus on active players.
