Pioneers roughed up by Rough Riders, take first loss of season in a big way

By Jim Walsh

There are some games that you don’t want to spend a lot of time talking about.

The St. Paul Pioneers’ 36-6 thumping at the hands of the River City Rough Riders was just that kind of game.

Tied 0-0 after one quarter, and down 9-0 at halftime, the first half of the game played at Galesville, Wis. Saturday was deceptively close.

But neither the Pioneers’ defense, nor its offense, made much of an appearance in the second half as St. Paul failed to score until Trey Keenan returned an interception for a touchdown late.

St. Paul hits the road next week for a rematch with the Miners, who the Pioneers beat Week One.
