Pioneers Reach Rare Quarter Century Milestone

Saint Paul, Minnesota — May 5, 2026 — The Saint Paul Pioneers proudly announce the celebration of their 25th Anniversary, marking a quarter-century of dedication to bringing quality amateur football, athletic excellence, and player development in the Saint Paul area.

Founded in 2001, the Saint Paul Pioneers have grown from a small grassroots organization into a cornerstone of the local amateur sports community and the larger semi-professional football world. Over the past 25 years, the organization has impacted hundred of young athletes, fostering not only competitive skills but also leadership, discipline, and teamwork. Since the founding of the team, the Pioneers have amassed many accolades including over ten league championships and four national championships.

While the on-field accolades mean a great deal to both past and present Pioneers, it’s what happens when teammates come together and form bonds that are life long. “To be part of the 25th anniversary season is an honor because we’re not just playing football we’re adding another chapter to a culture built on grit, loyalty, and heart. Every time we put that jersey on, we represent every man who came before us and every kid watching who dreams of being next,” says Quarterback Matthew Thayer.

Veteran Receiver Anthony Baggett was asked what his motivations for the 25th anniversary season were and he said four simple words. “Do it for Juice.” George “Juice” Hall was the heart and soul of the team for much of the team’s history before his sudden passing before the 2022 season. That year, the Pioneers won the Northern Elite Football League [NEFL] championship - the last before the league’s dissolution.

“This milestone is about more than just the passage of time—it’s about the people, the passion, and the purpose that have defined the Pioneers since day one,” said Coach J. Alfred Potter, Vice-President & Receivers Coach of the Saint Paul Pioneers. “We’re proud of our history and even more excited about the future,” says current Head Coach Damien Rochon-Washington, himself a former athlete and member of the St. Paul Pioneers Hall of Fame.

To commemorate the anniversary, the Pioneers will host a series of events throughout the year, including:

  • A 25th Anniversary Game celebrating alumni, coaches, and community supporters

  • Special recognitions honoring key contributors to the organization’s legacy

  • Announcing a two new end of season awards for both on and off field accomplishments.

The anniversary celebration will bring together past and present players, families, and fans to reflect on the organization’s journey and reaffirm its commitment to empowering St. Paul through the game off football.

Since its founding, the Saint Paul Pioneers have emphasized inclusivity, mentorship, and opportunity—values that remain central as the organization enters its next chapter.
