Current Featured Players:

Everett Wilburn - Cornerback
Everett is originally from Chicago, Illinois, but his football days began at Arlington High School located here in St. Paul, Minnesota – which he also calls his second home. He was an outstanding player at Arlington and Everett was recognized on the all-conference and all-state teams his senior year. Upon graduating from high school, he made the decision to take his talents to Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, where he played for three seasons.

Everett is now in the process of completing schooling to be a certified heavy equipment operator.  He is a full time student outside of football and stays busy in the pursuit of this career. This is Everett’s first season with the Pioneers. He played with the Minnesota Phoenix last season, recording 23 tackles and 2 interceptions.

Everett joined the Pioneers this season with hopes of adding to last year’s successes on a team that knows how to win. The Pioneers welcome Everett to the team as he tries to contribute to an aggressive Pioneer secondary led by Kahn Powell.

Jay Harding - Kicker/Punter/Wide Receiver

Originally from State College, Pennsylvania, Jay played his high school football at State College High School. As a four sport athlete, Jay thrived and was named to the all-state track team three years in high school for the mile. Aside from track, Jay also played football as a kicker, punter, and receiver for his high school team.

After a much-decorated high school career, Jay enrolled at Cornell, where he continued to combine track and football at a D-I level. Aside from sports Jay majored in Finance and Economics at Cornell, which led him to Minnesota, where he took a job as a Commodities Trader for The Scoular Company following his four years of schooling.

The Pioneers welcome Jay back for his second year with the team, as he looks to carry over last year’s successes into 2011. Jay was a NEFL All-Star in 2010, and successfully kicked the game- winning field goal in the All-Star game. Jay will look to be Mr. Automatic this year in the kicking game. The Pioneers also will have high hopes that Jay’s strong leg will provide opponents with poor field position, as he takes on the duties of punter. Outside of the special teams, Jay will be looking to contribute to St. Paul’s dynamic passing game.

Joe Sellwood - Fullback

Joe is originally from Mahtomedi, Minnesota, which is where he played his high school football as well. Joe played guard at Mahtomedi High School and was named to the all-conference team his senior year. He was also team captain. Following his high school campaign, Joe decided to attend Bethel University. One year into his college career, Joe made a big decision in his life. He joined the National Guard and this year will mark Joe’s 6th year in the service.

Joe also manages to juggle a job into the mix. He is a Sales Representative for a data processing company by the name of Helgeson Enterprises out of White Bear Lake, Minnesota. While Joe was busy serving his country in the Guard and building a career in his job, the passion for football never left him. This will be Joe’s second year with the Pioneers, and he looks forward to continuing to pave the way for the Pioneers backs.

Joe has a very special skill set, combining the power and technique of a lineman with the agility of a running back. The Pioneers look forward to running the ball successfully in the 2011 campaign with their great depth at the running back position.

Kyle Stelter- Long Snapper

Kyle played his high school football at Osceola High School located in Osceola, Wis., where he began his career as a special teams expert. From there, Kyle decided to take his talents to UW-River Falls, where he majors in physical education and health, with a minor in adapted physical education. Aside from playing football at UW-River Falls, he also participates on the track in field team as an accomplished thrower.

The Pioneers will be welcoming Kyle back for his second season at long snapper, and he will be looking to replicate last year’s successes. In 2010 Kyle was named the Special Teams MVP for the Pioneers, as well as a 2010 NEFL All-Star. He successfully snapped for the game- winning field goal in the 2010 All-Star game.

Outside of football, Kyle has managed to – remarkably – find time to begin and operate his own business: Special Teams University. Kyle works with promising young snappers, kickers, and punters, honing their skills and ultimately assisting them in getting noticed by collegiate programs nationwide. The Pioneers will look to Kyle to bring the same consistency to the special teams that he did in 2010 – as they look to repeat as NEFL champions.

Jeff McGaster- Defensive Tackle
Jeff McGaster, originally from Seaside, California, played his high school ball at Monterey High School. Upon graduation, this California kid made his way to the Midwest, where he attended Rochester Community and Technical College. Success followed. He he earned Second-Team All-Southern Division honors as a freshman and First-Team All-Southern Division honors as a sophomore. After his stint at Rochester, Jeff attended the University of Northern Iowa, where he majored in outdoor recreation and saw action in all 24 games over his two-year career.

Jeff now anchors the defensive line for the Pioneers and is looked to be an impact player on the defensive side of the ball every game. 2011 will be Jeff’s fourth season and it is looking to be has high-impact as ever. In 2009 Jeff was a disruptive force all season, leading to his being named co-defensive MVP and defensive MVP of the NAFL National Championship game. In 2010, his excellence continued as he led the team in sacks – recording nine over the course of the season – as well as finishing second on the team in tackles.

Away from football, Jeff works full-time as a special education assistant with the Minneapolis Public Schools. He also works as a bouncer at a highly popular metro-area bar and grill. Juggling all these responsibilities is demanding, but Jeff does it in stride – always showing up when his teammates need an impact play from him on the field. Jeff and his teammates expect continued success in 2011.

Bryan Trulen - Quarterback

Bryan is a local boy, residing in Plymouth, Minnesota, and played his high school football for Robbinsdale Armstrong. Following high school, Bryan attended the University of Minnesota-Crookston, where he majored in management. He also served as the backup quarterback. Instead of waiting even longer to take the reins, Bryan chose to go play junior college ball in Fergus Falls where he flourished. In 2007 Bryan threw for 1,800 yards and 13 touchdowns, earning him an All-MCCC Conference Selection. His stellar year at Fergus Falls led him to being highly recruited by various D1-AA schools. Bryan ultimately chose to attend Upper Iowa University, a Division II ballclub for his final season of eligibility.

Aside from football, Bryan stays busy working for Pearson Scoring Company as a temp, where he scores high school writing tests. The Pioneers are welcoming back Bryan for his second season with the team – and he looks to fill the void left by last year’s starter, Alex Neist. His continued improvement will only help St. Paul, as Bryan looks to be in the thick of a competition for the team’s coveted quarterback position.
