Pioneers Tryout A Success

About 50 St. Paul Pioneers new and old got back into the swing of football on Sunday, Jan. 23, during the Pioneers first tryout/practice of the
2011 season.

Head Coach Mark Heiser said he was impressed with the turnout at the Jimmy Lee Recreation Center in St. Paul. Those in attendance included about 30 newcomers to the Pioneers.

“We saw some interesting players in this group,” Heiser said. “Some of them may be able to help us this season.”

Players who tried out for the first time were invited to return to the Pioneers second tryout, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19th at Bethel University. Newcomers are asked to pay $20 to try out. Players who finished the 2010 season on the Pioneers roster are not required to pay a fee.
The St. Paul Pioneers are defending champions of the Northern Elite Football League. St. Paul defeated the Fox Valley Force 27-10 in Appleton, Wis. In 2009, the Pioneers won the North American Football League National Championship in a thrilling game in Miami, Fla.
